Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design

Course Description

During the Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) course, participants will focus on CPTED concepts of proper design and effective use of the physical environment to achieving a more productive use of space and reduction in crime.  Many communities throughout the country are adopting CPTED ordinances requiring site plan reviews with crime prevention in mind.  Law enforcement officers who are specially training in CPTED are now working closely with a cross section of the community to ensure the proper design of structures, schools, and neighborhoods.  This education can be tailored to fit the needs of a specific community or project, and illustrates how CPTED can complement existing policies or initiatives such as crime prevention, community policing and problem solving.

Please view the Crime Prevention Specialist Certificate Training Calendar for upcoming course offerings.
