Just two years after the Student Life department at Fox Valley Technical College opened its Connections Café, adjacent to the commons on the Appleton campus, students unraveled a new dimension to the business as it grows in popularity serving more students and visitors.
Lead by students Anna Pluger, Shiocton, and Taylor Koffarnus, Hilbert, a marketing research class within the college’s Marketing program engaged in a market research project last spring on ways the Café could extend its services to students and college visitors. The result of the study produced the conception of a mobile kiosk to geographically serve as an extension of the Connections Café on campus.
That kiosk is now open inside entrance 16 at FVTC, designed to offer specialty coffees for students and visitors on the college’s north side of its main campus facility. Although mobile in nature, the kiosk will primarily be positioned in the hall by entrance 16 most of the time.
The Connections Café and new kiosk are both designed to partner with FVTC’s programs where skills in a promotions, marketing, sales, and customer service are put into action as a real-world learning tool for students. The café, which houses an array of comfortable furniture options, a small performance stage, and a menu of specialty coffees, ice cream, snacks, juices, and baked goods from the college’s culinary arts department, will oversee the operations of the kiosk as a pilot effort.
The hours of the new kiosk are 8:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Cafe hours are 7:30 a.m.- 7:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday, and 7:30 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. on Friday.
