Inaugural Soldering Grads Poised to Impact Workforce

Inaugural Soldering Grads Poised to Impact Workforce

Jul 31, 2014

Thanks to an innovative partnership between Kelly Services, the Department of Workforce Development, Plexus Corporation, and Fox Valley Technical College, 10 individuals are ready to apply their skills to meet growing demands for a large area employer after four weeks of intense training.

The partnership created a fast pathway to learning the skill of soldering in order to help Plexus Corporation address a training gap.  Soldering is a process that joins together multiple pieces of metal by using heat as a primary element to solidify jointed intersections within a given manufacturing application. The process is quite prevalent in the plumbing, electronics, and metalwork industries.

The 10 students, who were referrals through Kelly Services in Appleton, completed the boot-camp style training experience in FVTC’s new Soldering Lab, located in the college’s Sustainable Technology Center on the Appleton campus. The initiative, funded through a Fast Forward grant by the Department of Workforce Development and administered by the Fox Valley Workforce Development Board, is designed to train 70 workers for careers at Plexus. Six other training cohorts are set to follow this pilot class.

FVTC and all of its collaborating partners congratulate the following graduates of the first class:

Isaac Camacho

Dacha Chastine-Johnson
