Culinary Students Take Home the Gold

Students from Fox Valley Technical College’s Culinary Arts program took home gold medals and more at the annual Wisconsin Restaurant Association (WRA) College Culinary Arts competitions in Milwaukee.

In the hot food team category, FVTC won first place out of six entries. The team consisted of students Jerry Tignall, Baltimore, Maryland; Brian Shaw, Sheboygan; Laura Johnson, New London; Chris Vandeyacht, Appleton; and Shanna Denning of Manitowoc.
Student Kristin Schnurer of Wrightstown took home a gold medal in the individual cold food competition. Other FVTC students placed in the same category, including Scott Strand of Menominee Falls with a silver medal and Shanna Denning from Manitowoc earned a bronze medal.

In the cake competition, FVTC students Kaytlin Snivey and Renita Dompier both earned gold medal baking performances, and in the professional cake competition, chef instructors Jenn Malvitz and Sue Horvath landed bronze medals.

In the past three years, 97% of the graduates from FVTC’s Culinary Arts program have landed jobs within six months of graduation.
