The Tribal Probation Academy (TPA) offers a clearly defined career path for new and current tribal probation officers. The comprehensive courses provide tribal probation officers with current information and important skill sets for probation case management and officer safety.
Academy Strategies
The Academy provides new and current tribal probation officers with current information on the legal system including laws, trends and jurisdiction of offender monitoring and management. Participants will learn how to gather case information, conduct interviews, interpret court documents, refer probationers to appropriate services, and apply alternative sentences. Participants will also learn how to identify predicators of underlying issues probationers may be experiencing and how to provide assistance for these issues. In addition, participants will learn appropriate court behavior and how to present information to the court. Probation officer safety is also addressed, focusing on how to conduct themselves around the probationer, their home, vehicle and place of employment.
