Fox Valley Technical College (FVTC) has integrated the MIT Fab Lab model into a unique network of Fab Labs and a growing portfolio of innovation offerings and services to drive academic excellence, invention, intellectual property , economic, and sustainable technology development in the region, while preparing 21st century learners for new careers in the global, knowledge economy.

FVTC’s evolving innovation network and resources include an Academic Fab Lab
on the main campus; the showcase Innovation Fab Lab in the Bordini Center, Distributed Fab Lab at the Riverside campus, and a mobile Fab Lab for community outreach. The Fab Lab staff
has the expertise, experience, and offerings to serve student, staff and community Fab Lab users who can also leverage the resources of the Global MIT Fab Lab Network.

STEM Learning &
Community Outreach

Fab Lab projects and staff inspire and develop 21st Century Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) skills while preparing learners for workforce readiness in STEM related careers. Learners of all ages work independently and collaboratively on digital fabrication projects in a new and highly-engaging learning model where a learner becomes an inventor. The FVTC Innovation Fab Lab offers the Digital Fabrication Series of fee-based courses and seminars for industry professionals, inventors, creative-types and anyone interested in “hands-on, minds-on” digital fabrication experiences!

Invention & Economic Development

Innovation experts provide the tools, technologies and support for inventors throughout the invention process, from product conception to commercialization. The FVTC Fab Lab is named as unfunded co-inventor in 11 patents applications and awards. Over 500 initial, virtual and feasibility prototypes have been generated to-date for inventors. Additionally, $250,000 in economic development has been generated for regional partners who provide complimentary support for inventor business plan development, market analysis, engineering development, advanced fabrication and funding.
