Controlled Substances Testing) - Employees and Students
ADMINISTRATIVE POLICY TYPE: HEALTH & SAFETY
POLICY TITLE: Commercial Drivers’ License (Alcohol and Controlled Substances Testing) – Employees and Students
The use of alcohol and illegal drugs has been demonstrated to significantly affect the performance of individuals and has been proven to have been a critical factor in injury incidents. This policy is designed to create an alcohol and other drug free system and to provide help to individuals who may be suffering from problems with chemical dependency.
Fox Valley Technical College (FVTC) is committed to providing a safe and healthy learning and working environment. This policy, effective January 1996, has been developed in accordance with the Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act of 1991 and the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations, and applies to both students and staff involved in commercial vehicle operation.
Procedures are in place to meet the minimum requirements for meeting the standards of an alcohol and other drug free transportation environment. These procedures will apply to any FVTC student or employee whose job duties or educational program requires them to perform safety sensitive transportation related functions or have a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL). This would include operators of vehicles having a gross vehicle weight in excess of 26,000 pounds and operators of vehicles with a seating capacity of 16 or more persons, including the driver.
Additional documentation relative to this policy is kept on file in the College Health Services Office and the office of the associate dean of Manufacturing, Transportation, Information and Agricultural Technologies. This will include documentation of the medical review officer, staff affected by the policy, employee and student specific information, and procedures for implementation of this policy.
