INTRODUCTION TO GRAMMAR
Introduction to Grammar is designed for individuals who need to improve their writing skills in preparation for the writing demands of post-secondary programs. (FVTC students must enroll in ABE English if they earn Accuplacer scores lower than those required for program entry.) The course includes an overview of parts of speech, sentence structure, usage, principles of agreement, and mechanics. In-depth grammar study is combined with applied writing and proofreading practice. The course is individualized and competency-based.
Grammar for Writing is the textbook used for Introduction to Grammar. Completed in 2005, it was collaboratively written by three FVTC GOAL English instructors: Eve Bauschek, Marge Schnese, and Ricky Vander Velden.
Introduction to Grammar Extra Practice Exercises were created to accompany the Grammar for Writing textbook and supplement the learning activities it presents. These exercises are intended for FVTC students who are enrolled in ABE English classes, particularly Introduction to Grammar or Basic English. These exercises follow the Supplement Sheet for Introduction to Grammar – Supplementary PLATO Lessons, Learning Objects, & Review Exercises. Each file contains an exercise and its answer key.
