Tribal Resource Grant Program

The Tribal Resource Grant Program (TRGP) was established in 1999 and directly supports tribal law enforcement agencies to implement or enhance their community policing efforts. TRGP is a comprehensive program designed to increase collaboration between law enforcement agencies and members of the community by providing a variety of funding options including officer background investigation, basic and specialized law enforcement training, uniforms, standard issue equipment, department-wide technology, and police vehicles. Grants are awarded through the Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS), U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ). Since the program’s inception, over $300 million dollars has been dedicated to TRGP grants.

TRGP Training Opportunities

The Tribal Oriented Policing Strategies (TOPS) Training demonstrates how to strengthen relationships between law enforcement, tribal agencies and the community to improve community quality of life and enhance community safety. Participants will learn proven problem-solving techniques to reduce crime in their communities. Law enforcement and community members will explore methods to effectively identify underlying causes or conditions that lead to crime.

The TOPS Training is currently being offered to 2011 TRGP grantees. Non-grantees may also have an opportunity to schedule training as funding permits.

Visit the Training Opportunities web page for more information and to schedule training at your location.
