CASOM Grant Program

About the CASOM Training

Management of sex offenders within communities has been occurring for many decades. Over the years, high profile crimes have increased the public's awareness of the potential risks that sex offenders pose to community members. In response to these cases, new legislation is requiring changes for states, territories and tribes in their approach to report, register, notify and monitor sex offenders. More than ever the need for a comprehensive approach is recognized as the most effective way to manage sex offenders within communities, to develop effective public policies that will promote public safety and to respond effectively to the needs of victims of sexual crime. To respond to this need, the Sex Offender Sentencing, Monitoring, Apprehending, Registering, and Tracking (SMART) Office provided funding for a two-day training program that will support the development and enhancement of comprehensive strategies for sex offender management.

The Comprehensive Approaches to Sex Offender Management (CASOM) training is designed for all those involved in the management of adult sex offenders and juveniles who commit sexual offenses. This is a basic training that emphasizes the importance of collaboration and system-wide planning that promotes community safety. Training topics will include an overview of the comprehensive approach, who offenders are, and what we know about victims of sexual crimes. Sex offender assessment, registration, treatment, and monitoring, as well as public education and collaboration will be covered in this 2-day training. View additional program information by downloading the CASOM State-Specific Flyer or the CASOM Tribal-Specific Flyer.
