The Tribal Probation Academy (TPA) offers a clearly defined career path for Tribal Probation Officers. These comprehensive courses provide Tribal Probation Officers with current information and important skill sets for probation case management and officer safety. In 2008, this Academy is offered at 4 regional training locations and tailored to the varied and busy schedules of working Tribal Probation Officers.
The Tribal Probation Academy Strategies
This program provides Tribal Probation Officers with current information on the legal system including laws, trends and jurisdiction of offender monitoring and management. Participants will learn how to gather case information, conduct interviews, interpret court documents, refer probationers to appropriate services and apply alternative sentences. Participants will also learn how to assess problems and identify predicators of probationers who suffer from underlying issues and how to provide assistance for these issues. Participants will learn appropriate court behavior and how to present information to the court. Probation officer safety is also taught on how to conduct themselves around the probationer, their home, vehicle and place of employment. Please see the
