Title IX prohibits sex discrimination in any educational program or activity receiving any type of federal financial aid. While Title IX is a very short statute, over time it has been given a broad scope and now covers sexual harassment and sexual violence on college campuses. Under Title IX, schools are legally required to respond and remedy hostile educational environments, and failure to do so is a violation that means a school could lose its federal funding. The law in this area is constantly changing, and it is important for both students and faculty to be aware of what is going on. Anna Sankaran, who is a lawyer by day and a stand-up comic by night, will make sure you are up to date with the basics of Title IX and all recent changes.
