Professional Communications and Business Management-Marketing

Why did you choose the Professional Communications and Business Management-Marketing programs?

Communications, business management and marketing are important in every industry. These programs allow me to choose which industry I’d like to work in, while also allowing me to put my knowledge and life experience to use. During a career planning workshop, I decided that these combined programs made sense in our current digital world. Now that I’m nearing graduation, I’m even more sure that this was the right decision. I am well equipped through my experience here at FVTC.

What are you learning about your career field that you find interesting or rewarding?

I can now communicate more effectively, write proposals and grants, manage projects, create marketing plans and web content, write technical documentation, edit, design, and share my marketing skills. I am confident in my gained knowledge and skills, knowing that this will open many more doors for me to do what I enjoy.

Why did you choose Fox Valley Technical College?

FVTC was a great resource for me in my previous career, which required annual continuing education. The college has also been a great help to me during challenging times in my life, and I was able to find the direction necessary to change my journey. This time I needed to make a complete change in my profession, and I found a new pathway through combining these two programs.

How did Fox Valley Technical College help you change your life?

FVTC has offered a supportive environment for me to grow. I have acquired so many skills that I have developed through my classes. The staff, instructors, leadership and students have impacted my journey as I’ve grown through this process of discovering my strengths and newfound abilities.

Working as a Peer Advisor allows me to pass along the knowledge and support I’ve gained here to others. I have gained friendships while sharing what I’ve learned by helping students who felt stuck, then delighted to see them move beyond their barriers. I plan to continue sharing and giving in any environment in which I work.

What type of job do you expect to find after graduation?

Ideally, I would like to work in an environment with a variety of elements—business/project management, creative writing, technical writing, design, editing/revising. A great balance would offer some individual project development time, collaborative team times, and time with clients to discover their dreams and help develop them.
