Individualized Technical Studies: Multimedia Content Developer

Career Program: Individualized Technical Studies: Multimedia Content Developer
Hometown: De Pere
Current Residence: Neenah
Age: 51
Attended FVTC: Spring 2016-Fall 2017

Why did you choose the Individualized Technical Studies: Multimedia Content Developer program?

I’m a displaced worker from Gannett Wisconsin Media. I deeply enjoyed working as a professional photojournalist/videographer, but changes in the newspaper industry created an environment of downsizing. After leaving my newspaper career, I have been actively looking for work in the multimedia field. After interviewing for multiple videographer, photographer, and multimedia positions throughout the Midwest, I realized that I needed to further my education to obtain additional skills to land a job. Skills in animation, digital marketing, website development, and graphics would allow me to successfully compete in the current multimedia professional job market.

The Individualized Technical Studies (ITS) option provided me with the flexibility to select classes that fit my career objective of becoming a Multimedia Content Developer. During the ITS application process, I met with my occupational and academic advisor to identify classes that would give me the right multimedia skills. The beauty of the ITS program is that it allows a person to choose from any degree offered at FVTC. I chose classes from Professional Communications, Web Development & Design, Digital Marketing, and Digital Media Technology.

What are you learning about your career field that you find interesting or rewarding?

I've been extremely blessed to be a Multimedia Developer Intern with Fox Valley Technical College’s Learning Innovations & Technology Center. This experience is providing me skills in animation and graphics. Through this internship, FVTC has given me the opportunity to not just learn concepts, but also to apply them.

Why did you choose Fox Valley Technical College?

When my newspaper career was phased out, I had to transition from being an award-winning photojournalist to reinventing myself. Moving to the Fox Cities and attending this college, which has a great reputation, seemed like the perfect fit to acquire the skills needed to get me back to what I love—visual storytelling.

How did Fox Valley Technical College help you change your life?

Education, experience and networking is how FVTC is changing my life. When I graduate in December 2017, I am confident that I will have the right skills to land the right position at the right company.

What type of job do you expect to find after graduation?

I love creating. I enjoyed working as a professional photojournalist/videographer and now enjoy creating animated educational and training lessons. With an associate degree as a Multimedia Content Developer, I’m looking to produce, edit, and post all types of media content for a company/organization that needs a professional photographer, videographer, animator, graphic artist, digital marketer, social media specialist, metric/analytic analysis, and website developer.
