Fox Valley Technical College brings new programming to New London.

The New London Adult Education and Family Learning program (NLAEFL) begins January 23 in the new Fox Valley Technical College site located at 110 W. North Water Street.

Adults interested in preparing for careers and for college can attend the program on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1-3 p.m. and/or 4-6 p.m. Students can work on completing high school credentials, learn English, and explore career development options. There is an initial assessment fee, which can be waived based on need, and there is no tuition for the classes.

Children’s programming is also provided free of charge to youngsters of parents while they are attending class by Robin’s Nest Learning Center for preschool children ages six weeks to six years. In addition, grade school youth enrolled in the School District of New London may attend after school programming free of charge while their parents attend classes in the NLAEFL program.

“Fox Valley Technical College has provided Adult Basic Education (ABE) in New London for many years, but this program takes it to a new level by serving children and families together,” says Annette Homan, adult basic education instructor at FVTC. “In addition to the adult classes and children’s programming, the NLAEFL will also sponsor multiple activities throughout the year that reinforce healthy family interactions and development.”

These enrichment activities include family-style meals, field trips, and attending community events. Career exploration immersions that often consist of field trips to local employers and presentations from professionals in occupations like public safety, nursing, and advanced manufacturing bring real-world awareness to participants. There is no cost to enrolled families in NLAEFL for the activities.

Funding for the New London Adult Education and Family Learning program is made possible through the generous support of the Bemis Company Foundation.
