Instructor Now an Executive Fire Officer

Jan 22, 2014

Jeremy Hansen, instructor in Fox Valley Technical College’s Fire Protection Technician program, received Executive Fire Officer certification from the U.S. Fire Administration’s National Fire Academy, which is a branch of the Federal Emergency Management Administration, or FEMA. By completing the four-year program, Hansen earned the highest level of fire training certification available in the United States.

A graduate of FVTC’s Fire Protection Technician program in 1995, Hansen published four papers as part of his National Fire Academy training experience. His topics included performance evaluations for interns, hazard assessment for water retention and detention ponds, damage assessment for catastrophes regarding weather-related events, and prioritization of training venues.

Hansen has served as an instructor at FVTC for the past nine years. He was one of the original concept planners behind the college’s new Public Safety Training Center, which is scheduled to open later this year at the Outagamie County Regional Airport. The facility is the centerpiece project from the successful public referendum in April of 2012 that FVTC passed by a 2-1 margin.

Prior to joining FVTC, the Grand Chute resident and Green Bay native worked as a firefighter and paramedic for the City of Eau Claire.
