Machine Tool Club Ornament Sale Benefits Food Pantry

Dec 22, 2015

Through a student project, the FVTC Machine Tool Club raised enough money to donate a record 10 pallets of food to St. Joseph Food Program this holiday season.

Students in the Machine Tool Technician program designed and sold metal holiday ornaments for about five weeks, and used the proceeds to buy food. Some ornaments were seasonal in nature and others were custom-made.

The students have been making the ornaments with water jet technology for three years. Prior to that, students did similar fundraisers, but everything was donated and the volume was considerably less. Now, they can make their own ornaments and raise more money. In addition to applying their technical skills, students learn how to work in teams as well as sales techniques and customer service. The community wins from feeding the less fortunate.
