Skills Assessment

An academic skills assessment is required for admission into this program or the following: High School GPA of 2.75 or higher (last 10 years) OR provide completion of associate’s or higher degree OR; 165 or higher on your 2014 series GED tests OR; ACT OR SAT OR Accuplacer OR Companion OR Compass (last 3 years) to waive to the general education level; The cost of the Accuplacer assessment is $15; Catalog #: 94100100; Learn more at www.fvtc.edu/Assessment.

This program may require professional licensure or certification; FVTC has determined that this program meets professional licensure requirements in the state of Wisconsin; however, FVTC has not determined if this program meets professional licensure requirements for other states.

This program is approved by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) under 14CFR Part 147; You will earn a Graduation Certificate upon completion of the approved curriculum to meet 14CFR Part 65.77; You may not be able to transfer previously completed aviation maintenance courses. Many employers require a complete physical examination, including drug screening.

Evening classes will be available starting in January 2024.

You may choose to also complete the Aircraft Electronics program at Fox Valley Technical College with only one additional year of instruction.

Program Outcomes

  • Comply with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) rules and regulations governing Airframe and Powerplant Technicians.
  • Demonstrate FAA and manufacturers’ approved and/or acceptable methods, of maintenance, preventive maintenance, and alterations to airframes, powerplants, and appliances of aircraft.
  • Demonstrate proper safety procedures when working on or around aircraft.
  • Determine the appropriate diagnosis, inspection, and repair of aircraft, powerplants, and components.
  • Obtain the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Airframe and Powerplant Mechanic Certificate.

Accreditation

This program is certified and operated under the approval provisions of the Department of Transportation, Federal Aviation Administration Regulation Part 147. As a successful graduate, you are eligible for federal testing and certification as an FAA-rated airframe and powerplant mechanic. In the 2022-2023 school year, FVTC graduates had a pass rate of 100%. You must be 18 years of age in order to take the exams.
