Why did you choose the Human Resources Program?

I chose the Human Resources program because I realized HR is so much more than what I thought it was. Human resources incorporates all fields of study that I would have liked to pursue but didn’t necessarily have time for: sociology, psychology, economics and so many more areas. Being personable and helping people improve is what comes naturally to me.

What are you learning about your career field that you find interesting or rewarding?

Human resources is a very rewarding program and career. Who doesn’t like to help people? The main rewarding aspect to me is that as an HR manager, I will be in a position of influence. Having the chance to change someone’s life is pretty remarkable.

Why did you choose Fox Valley Technical College?

Fox Valley Technical College seemed like the perfect fit for me. I transferred there after two years at another college. While I was at my first college, I pursued a psychology degree. I decided that my first school didn't challenge me in the right area academically, so I transferred to FVTC. I had no clue what I wanted to study any more. After going to the Center for New Students, they directed me to the career development workshop. At the workshop, the instructor really cared about who you were and what you were good at. They gave me options of what they thought I would be best at. This is where I discovered the career path that I would pursue at FVTC.

How did Fox Valley Technical College help you change your life?

FVTC has changed my life in a positive way. Not only has it helped me grow as a person, but it has helped me develop skills to build my confidence. The opportunities that the school has given me are tremendous. I am a captain on the women’s basketball team, and I am an intern for the Center for New Students. Already I can feel myself growing as a teammate, an employee, a family member and a friend.

What type of job do you expect to find after graduation?

I truly hope to work in the health care human resources field. I have been in the health care field for seven years now and hope to work my way up. But, after I earn my associate’s degree, I plan to go right back to school to earn my bachelor’s and hopefully my master’s shortly after that. I plan to work on the hiring and interviewing side of HR.
