Why did you choose the Agribusiness/Science Technology program?

I am very passionate about farming so naturally I was attracted to the Agriculture Center at Fox Valley Technical College. Many years ago, my dad told me if you like your job, you will never work a day in your life. I enjoy working with animals, equipment, and the variety of work on the farm on a day-to-day basis. The hands-on education at FVTC was important to me because I learn best when I can see things.

What are you learning about your career field that you find interesting or rewarding?

When you learn about something you enjoy, you soak up the knowledge like a sponge. In every class I have taken here, I have learned career and life lessons. I have learned about the new technology in agriculture, the science behind GMOs and pesticides, and I have even learned how to manage people and make investments for my retirement. I have learned enough about every aspect of agriculture to be comfortable in any agriculture career.

Why did you choose Fox Valley Technical College?

I found out about FVTC through a friend who got a degree in the Agribusiness program. He spoke very highly of the college, teachers and students, so I decided to check out Fox Valley Tech for myself. I liked many things about the college. First, it has a great reputation of helping out working adults who return to school, like me. Second, FVTC is located in a smaller town, which made me feel more at home. Also, it’s only about an hour from my home, which was important to me so I could go home on weekends to work on the farm. I liked that I was able to schedule my classes so I could have off on Fridays, which gave me a three-day weekend. This allowed me to have more time for both farm work and school. Economically, FVTC was a good decision with the relatively lower prices for classes. Finally, FVTC accepted the transfer credits I had earned while attending the UW-Madison Farm and Industry Short Course.

How did Fox Valley Technical College help you change your life?

Through Fox Valley Tech, I met a whole new group of friends, and even met my girlfriend here. I have also been able to come out of my shell and try new things. I became the president of our Post-secondary Agriculture Students (PAS) Organization, and I love being involved and leading this group. FVTC has also helped me elevate my career from a laborer to management-level potential.

What type of job do you expect to find after graduation?

After graduation, I plan to eventually become an Agriculture Loan Officer. I also aspire to be an agronomist, nutritionist, salesman or farmer. As long as I’m in agriculture, I will be happy.
