Why did you choose the Criminal Justice program?
Wanting to help people is what motivates a lot of my choices. While law enforcement officers do arrest people and deal with criminals on a daily basis, it’s more than that. It’s about making human connections and helping people through crisis. At the end of the day, I want to be able to say I've made a positive difference in people's lives.
What are you learning about your career field that you find interesting or rewarding?
One of the first classes I took here taught us about ways to help prevent massive losses during emergencies like tornadoes and hurricanes. This opened up a whole new subset of opportunities within a police department outside of K-9 or SWAT positions that I'm interested in.
Why did you choose Fox Valley Technical College?
Knowing that my instructors have experience as police officers and share what they've done helped make the decision to come here easy. Being able to use the technology at Public Safety Training Center as it applies to classes is a unique chance that not many other colleges have.
How did Fox Valley Technical College help you change your life?
Getting involved on campus has helped me overcome my shyness. When I first started school, I never dreamed of talking in front of large groups of people, but now I'm in my second year of involvement with student government. I was president of Wisconsin Student Government, a statewide organization that advocates for student needs every February in Madison with senators and representatives. FVTC has helped shape me into a confident person.
What type of job do you expect to find after graduation?
I am hoping to be hired on with a department and get sponsored through the academy.
