Why did you choose to study this field?

As an academic journey through my pursuit of science, I’ve explored scientific fields such as human biology and environmental science. I've now landed and found security within computer science. With the progressive rise in technology upon choosing a major, it was a no-brainer that I pursue an academic career in web development and design. By having an established interest in marketing and development, I began identifying ways our tech world was progressing. This need and desire for the pursuit of a technology-based career was essential.

Tell us how you came to choose FVTC for your education.

Fox Valley Technical College appeared to me during a pivot in my academic career. This school, based on research, showcased its willingness and ability to foster a proper academic and living environment that would support transitioning young adults like me. While visiting the FVTC main campus and the surrounding Appleton area, I felt at home right away. It was the perfect-sized city for a developing young adult. I knew that the fresh start I needed should be here, at Fox Valley Tech.

What’s been the most rewarding part of your educational journey at FVTC?

Serving as a representative within my program of technology served me well. I was always crossing paths with such driven and motivating professors and admin staff, all pouring into me, amplifying my light and purpose. I felt seen while being here. I felt supported in every way. The connections I made here I wouldn't want to replace; I would only desire for them to grow stronger.

A highlighted experience would be the opportunity to be a part of the work-study group that resides within the FVTC Finance and Resource Support Center. Coming into alignment with this opportunity was divine, and the staff welcomed me with open arms. My role as a work-study personnel amplified my creative mindset, skills and desires.

What was the most difficult part?

When I first started at FVTC, it was an adjustment to get used to a new academic environment and navigating campus resources. Once I got more involved, especially in student groups, I started to feel more connected and aligned.

What will you do on graduation day or in the future to celebrate graduation?

I will take in this major milestone, celebrate my accomplishments with my family and embrace them all with open arms, given that they’ve all traveled from home in Florida. And of course, I’ll indulge in some self-care.

Tell us about your plans after graduation.

After I graduate with honors from FVTC, I will be continuing my education on an academic scholarship to a school of my choice, with a total offering pool of $110,000 worth of scholarship funding to pursue a B.A. in Computer Science with a minor in Anthropology at the best school suited for me. I look forward to the developmental journey of academic adulthood. I look forward to radiating such a positive influence back into those who follow along and support this journey of mine. A top choice is UW-Stevens Point.

One last parting thought or words of wisdom to share with others.

The idea in your mind, that calling in your heart, you're not hearing that for no reason. Allow curiosity and adventure to flow through your life. Be open to the pursuit of change. Face fear head-on, because that's just internal doubt. You got this, we got this. I’ll see you at your destiny!
