Why did you choose to study this field?

I chose Health Information Technology because health information is at the forefront of the news every day. It is an interesting field to learn more about because technology is forever changing.

Tell us how you came to choose FVTC for your education.

FVTC had the program that I was interested in pursuing and the 2-year program fit in the timeframe that I was looking for.

What's been the most rewarding part of your educational journey at FVTC?

The whole experience! After high school, I never went to college, so this was all new to me and a very eye-opening experience that I am so glad I jumped into.

What was the most difficult part?

There were a few difficult parts in this journey. It was very hard for me to get into the swing of things with the technology part of school. I've been out of school for more years than I care to count, so Blackboard was challenging. It was difficult balancing life as a mother and taking care of a household and a family. I had to learn to prioritize and let people know that going to school and succeeding was important to me, so I needed them to step up and help out around the house.

What will you do on graduation day or in the future to celebrate graduation?

I plan on celebrating with family and a few close friends.

Tell us about your plans after graduation.

I have actually already been offered a job through Advocate Aurora Health as a Health Information Representative working with the ambulatory deficiency team.

One last parting thought or words of wisdom to share with others.

Never think it's too late to go back to school and follow your dreams! If you put your mind to it, anything is possible!
