Mental Health Matters at FVTC

| By: Daley-Hinkens, Carmelyn M

Mental Health Awareness Month is recognized nationally during the month of May, in an effort to raise awareness of those living with mental health issues, as well as to help reduce the stigma associated with mental health.

At Fox Valley Technical College, we are committed to creating an environment where students and staff feel safe and supported year-round. Initiatives include mental health counseling for students through FVTC Counseling Services, EAP counseling for staff, continuous QPR and mental health first aid trainings for staff and students, mental health-related workshops, activities & presentations and staff wellness incentives.

We are recognizing Mental Health Awareness Month through the following:

Between May 5 and 9, students and staff are invited to participate in a 3K walk around the Appleton campus. The route follows the sidewalk around the main campus and features signs with mental health statistics, information and messages of hope.

Participants can pick up free giveaway items including water, granola bars, stickers and bracelets at Entrances 1, 3 and 10. The walk can be completed anytime during the week at your own pace.

In addition, staff members are encouraged to purchase and wear their ChooseKind@FVTC apparel throughout the month.
