Black History Month is a time to pay tribute to leaders and role models in the Black community who have motivated and inspired many throughout history.
We asked faculty, staff and students at Fox Valley Technical College to share their favorite quotes from Black leaders and explain why their words are so important to them.
Favorite quote from Scholars for Success Coordinator Alexis Hill:
"We delight in the beauty of the butterfly, but rarely admit the changes it has gone through to achieve that beauty."
— Maya Angelou
Here's what Alexis has to say about the meaning behind this quote:
I find this quite encouraging because it reminds me of myself and the things I faced and experienced in life.
It reminds me that my past does not define me, but it has helped me blossom into the woman I am today.
