Business Management, Entrepreneurship

Nov 10, 2014

Career Program: Business Management, Entrepreneurship
Age: 19
Hometown: Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic
Current Residence: Appleton
Attended FVTC: August 2013-May 2015

Why did you choose the Business Management program?
I love business, and in the future I want to start my own events planning business. Studying Business Management will give me the knowledge that I need to be successful in my business adventure.

What are you learning about your career field that you find interesting or rewarding?
Each day I learn something new, which will not only be useful in my career, but also in my daily life. An example is this year’s Student Government Association election, when I was running for President. I used the knowledge I received in my Sales and Marketing class in order to be successful in the campaign, because elections are about selling ourselves. And I won!

Why did you choose Fox Valley Technical College?
I did not choose FVTC; I was placed here through the Scholarships for Education and Economic Development (SEED) program, which is sponsored by the United States Agency for International Development. It is administered through Georgetown University. Even though FVTC was not my first choice, I feel happy to be studying here because I have visited colleges in other states, and they do not offer what FVTC has to offer. FVTC also has a much nicer atmosphere.

How did Fox Valley Technical College help you change your life?

I am more than just a student here. The staff treats us as part of a big family, especially the Global Education department and the English language instructors. I’m also developing my leadership skills, and I know this will help me for the rest of my life. Finally, thanks to FVTC, I have learned that a college is more than just a place where students go for some hours, receive knowledge, and then go about their business. College is also where you develop your skills outside the classroom and network with people.

What type of job do you expect to find after graduation?
After graduation, I will go back to Dominican Republic. I hope to work for a company where I can put my business knowledge to use.
