Tree of Success Grows into Display

Jul 17, 2014

Creativity. Friendships. Passion. Those words, and many others, hang from the new “Tree of Success” sculpture at Fox Valley Technical College’s Appleton campus. The words reflect the characteristics that FVTC students associate with personal success. All 57 words on the tree, which are designed to replicate the positioning of fruit, were the result of student contributions to the project on behalf of the college’s Student Life department, along with collaboration from Eppstein Uhen Architects, Custom Metals, Inc., Banker Wire, and Miron Construction.

The Tree of Success will be a focal point of FVTC’s new two-story Student Success Center, which will open in its entirety in late August as one of two final primary facility projects still under construction as a result of a successful public referendum in 2012.

Students in FVTC’s Wood Manufacturing Technology program designed and built the tree’s stump and branches, and Banker Wire mesh forms its foliage. The company made the leaves in a moveable fashion so FVTC can configure this part of the tree in a metaphorical capacity in alignment with learning and personal growth.

The Tree of Success is approximately 24 feet high by 16 feet in width and is located on the first floor of the Student Success Center inside entrance 1 at FVTC.
