Office Assistant

Jan 20, 2014

Career Program: Office Assistant

Age: 20

Hometown: Oshkosh

Current Residence: Oshkosh
Attended FVTC: August 2012 through present

Why did you choose the Office Assistant program?
I picked the Office Assistant program because it’s interesting and it’s offered in Oshkosh. Originally, I was in the Agri-Business/Science Technology program, but I found out that it just wasn’t the thing for me. I figured that having an office degree under my belt would help land me a job just about anywhere!

What are you learning about your career field that you find interesting or rewarding?
I am learning that the office assistant position in a company is much more involved than I thought! They not only do typical office stuff, but also a lot of trip or event planning, equipment ordering and mail distribution. They are the people who keep things running smoothly. I’m gaining valuable practical and soft skills that all employers want.

Why did you choose Fox Valley Technical College?
I chose to attend Fox Valley Technical College mainly because it was affordable. I wasn’t interested in going to a 4-year college that charged me a fortune! Now that I have been here for over a year, I could never imagine being somewhere else. The instructors here are amazing, the atmosphere is very comfortable and people are very welcoming.

How did Fox Valley Technical College change your life?
FVTC has helped to make me a more confident person, especially since I joined the Oshkosh Student Board. The people in OSB have really been supportive and encouraging; always wanting me to strive for more. They have pushed me past my comfort zone and into situations that I thought I couldn’t handle; they did this knowing I could accomplish them.

What type of job do you expect to find after graduation?
Well, that’s the thing, after graduation I plan on taking 2 more technical diploma programs: the Automotive Maintenance Technician program as well as the Food Service Production program. As you can tell, I’m not really sure what I would like to do when I “grow up”! I’m going to be a woman of all trades!
