FVTC, Goodwill and Rawhide to deliver unique workforce training program

| By: Daley-Hinkens, Carmelyn M

We’re just a few months away from Career EXCELerate starting at Fox Valley Technical College. This first-of-its-kind training program was announced in the summer after the state of Wisconsin awarded FVTC, Goodwill and Rawhide Youth Services a $6.5 million training grant.

Career EXCELerate will help individuals—who’ve faced economic hardships and mental health challenges as a result of the pandemic—return to the workforce. The program will offer training and certifications in eight areas where workers are in high demand, such as manufacturing, transportation, healthcare and early childhood care. Participants who meet eligibility requirements will not have to pay for the training.

The first group of students will start training in January. Until then, the partnership is meeting with local employers to explain the program and how they can benefit. Potential students are also coming forward.

“We have had some potential students come forward already, some referrals, and we’re very excited by that because we’re at such an early point with the proposal and the initiative,” says Andy Rinke, FVTC dean of Transportation. “It seems to be very popular and we’re very excited to see even more students come forward.”

Details about the program, who is eligible and how to apply can be found on the Career EXCELerate website.
