President Emeritus
Dr. Susan May served as the President and Chief Executive Officer for Fox Valley Technical College from July 2008-July 2021.
May joined Fox Valley Technical College as an adult continuing education specialist in 1983. She served as the College’s executive vice president from 2005 to 2008 and the chief academic officer from 1997-2008. From 1994 to 1997 she served as vice president for Marketing and Economic Development. She also served in the positions of dean and outreach operations manager between 1989 and 1993. Earlier in her career, she worked as a teacher and department chair for New Holstein High School, New Holstein, Wisconsin.
Active in the community, May serves on several boards, including Community First Credit Union and Junior Achievement Wisconsin while chairing the Board of Advocates for Lakeland University’s Women’s Leadership Institute and volunteering as a member of the U.S. Global Leadership Council. She is an ex-officio member of the FVTC Foundation, Inc. Board of Directors, past board chair and emeritus board member of the National Association for Community College Entrepreneurship, a board member and past president of the Northeast Wisconsin Educational Resource Alliance (NEW ERA) board, and past president of the Wisconsin Technical College System Presidents’ Association.
May received both her Bachelor’s degree in Education and Master’s degree in Vocational Education Administration from the University of Wisconsin-Stout. She earned her Doctorate degree in Vocational, Technical, and Occupational Education from Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
As former co-chair of United Way campaigns in 2011 and 2012, May was the recipient of the 2019 Fox Cities Chamber Pinnacle Award – the Gus A. Zuehlke Community Service Award, the 2017 Shirley B. Gordon Award of Distinction for presidents and chancellors by the Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society of Students, the 2012 Thomas G. Scullen Educational Leadership Award from the Appleton Education Foundation, the 2008 Athena Award by the Fox Cities Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the 2007 Fox Cities Woman Manager of the Year Award by Women in Management Inc.- Fox Cities Chapter.
May lives in the Town of Greenville with her husband, Tim. Their son, Bryan, works as a mechanical designer in the region and daughter-in-law, Anna, is a medical coder. Both are Fox Valley Technical College graduates. Granddaughter, Kendra, is almost a year old.
