As a network specialist, you implement, maintain and troubleshoot a variety of network equipment. You may manage a single local area network or be involved in a complex telecommunication WAN environment. You may administer, install or troubleshoot communication hardware or software, or integrate technologies to meet the corporate demands for information sharing. Any time there is a need to share information, there is an opportunity for a network specialist to implement a network solution. The need for and implementation of network security is also explored.
Program Description
The IT Network Specialist Program provides you with training consistent with current and future industry standards. Upon graduation, you will have specific skills pertaining to Local Area Network (LAN) and Wide Area Network (WAN) installation, maintenance and support. In addition, you will be exposed to data and voice communications methodologies as well as wireless and wired network security concerns.

Upon successful completion of this program, you will be able to:
- Implement and manage network infrastructure security.
- Install and maintain network hardware, software and operating systems.
- Configure a variety of network equipment including routers, switches and access points.
- Develop and maintain technical documentation.
- Implement methods to monitor and increase network performance.
- Implement emerging technologies such as wireless networking and Voice over IP.
- Control network access utilizing firewalls, access control lists (ACLs) and virtual LANs (VLANs).
- Manage network projects.
- Support, monitor and maintain desktop computers.
- Install desktop computers, printers and peripherals.
- Evaluate hardware and software and recommend improvements and upgrades.
- Solve problems both individually and in a team environment.
- Communicate effectively with team members and customers.
