In just three years, the FABTECH Service Technician Education Center is already serving as a national training model. FABTECH is a partnership between Fox Valley Technical College and FABCO Equipment, Inc., Caterpillar dealer for Wisconsin and Upper Michigan.
The high-tech facility, adjacent to FVTC’s S.J Spanbauer Center in Oshkosh, houses the latest model Caterpillar equipment and blends classroom learning with hands-on experiences. Caterpillar-specific diesel service technicians are then ready for career tracks in rental equipment, engine, construction equipment, and electric power generation/marine engine.
FABTECH officials and instructors recently welcomed representatives from Carolina CAT and Central Piedmont Community College in North Carolina for a tour of the facility. The visiting parties gained a better knowledge of how to implement a training center on the East Coast that mirrors the successful partnership model between FVTC and FABCO.
That success produced 100% job placement for 2010 FABTECH program graduates. The healthy job outlook continues—FABCO is anticipating increased demand for skilled service technicians as the economic downturn begins to shift in favor of this traditionally strong industry.
According to a recent New North Occupation Opportunity Projections survey, diesel engine-related careers are anticipated to grow by 19% in the region through 2015. The same report cited that the upper 75% of workers in this field generally make over $26 an hour.
Congratulations, FABTECH, for visibly demonstrating the broad impact of a private/public partnership.
