Transportation WAT Grant

Fox Valley Technical College is the recipient of a Workforce Advancement Training (WAT) grant to address the need for skilled employees in the transportation sector in the state of Wisconsin. The grant initiative was developed as a partnership with the Wisconsin Motor Carriers Association (WMCA) and Wisconsin School Bus Association (WSBA) to enhance safe driving skills and workplace effectiveness for its association members. Courses in decision driving, training techniques, and workplace effectiveness were selected as training priorities to upgrade incumbent worker skills. Trainings are exclusive for employers/employees who are members of the WMCA or WSBA.

Trainings available through the WAT grant are offered at a reduced cost to the employer. The grant benefit provides 30-50% off standard FVTC service rates (grant support will vary by project).

Wisconsin Decision Driving Course (8 hours)

Many drivers overrate their abilities as a driver and often underestimate the capabilities of the vehicle they are driving. This combination often results in serious crashes simply because the driver is making decisions based on incomplete data.

The exercises in the Wisconsin Decision Driving Course simulate a variety of emergency situations which allow a driver to test his/her abilities and understand their limitations as well as learn more about the performance capability of a particular vehicle type.

This hands-on experience affords the driver an opportunity to make better decisions when confronted with an actual emergency associated with everyday driving activities thus minimizing the devastating results associated with accidents or avoiding the occurrence completely.

About WAT

WAT grants are awarded to colleges by the Wisconsin Technical College System (WTCS) Board. The WTCS awards funds to promote increased investment in the development of incumbent workers, improve Wisconsin businesses’ productivity and competitiveness, augment the state’s economic base, support career pathways and expand technical college training and technical assistance services to businesses and industry. Grants will be awarded to upgrade the skills and productivity of employees of established businesses operating in Wisconsin, with the additional objective of supporting regional workforce and economic development efforts. Training under these grants must focus on occupational skills but can include a combination of occupational, academic, and employability topics or courses. Grants will also be awarded for market expansion or business diversification services to established Wisconsin businesses.

Employers enrolling participants in WAT grant trainings will be expected to complete a web-based WTCS Economic Impact Survey within 30 days of training. The survey will be emailed to you and is intended to gain feedback and assess immediate or anticipated impact of the training. Survey responses are important and provide accountability that grant resources had positive employee and organization impact.
