Preparing for What's Next

Fox Valley Technical College continues to design instructional formats that best serve the needs of its students, while at the same time following ever-changing COVID-19 safety guidelines. College officials are reminding the community that the school remains open for course takers, program students, and employers.

“Fox Valley Technical College’s top priority is always the health and safety of its students, customers, and staff,” says college president Dr. Susan May. “We’re just doing things differently by adapting to these times and looking at ways to optimize innovation whenever possible.”

For example, some labs are running now and others are being developed for fall semester under smaller class sizes, physical distancing parameters, and other personal safety measures. Meanwhile, FVTC continues to offer its full-line of instruction through either online, virtual, or other delivery methods like it has since mid-March when Wisconsin’s Stay-At-Home order was enforced.

Executive Vice President and Chief Academic Officer Dr. Chris Matheny views preparing front-line workers in essential industries as being a key initiative at the college. "The coronavirus pandemic necessitated a continued focus on training nurses, firefighters, and paramedics,” he states.

That's why FVTC emphasized restarting its critical hands-on instruction as soon as possible. Keeping people safe under those circumstances has allowed the college to expand to meet demands in advanced manufacturing, transportation, and other key sectors.

May sees a bit of a silver lining during these difficult times. “Our students' ability to adapt to new challenges has been extraordinary, and we are helping them become resilient and even better prepared for opportunities in the economic recovery,” she notes. “Although we’d rather be conducting business as usual, this experience will only strengthen their marketability in years to come.”

For now, college leaders urge members of its communities throughout the region to visit www.fvtc.edu/HereForYou for ongoing updates and how COVID-19 is impacting facilities.
