Why did you choose the Nursing program?

I’ve always had an interest in how the body works. I initially went to school to become a physical therapist, but years passed on and I found myself in nursing. As I continued to take various courses such as anatomy & physiology, biochemistry, microbiology, and other healthcare courses, I found a deeper interest in following a disease process, how it affects a person, and how I, as a nurse, can treat the problem. Nursing allows me to have the opportunity to always stay motivated and wanting to learn more.

What are you learning about your career field that you find interesting or rewarding?

I think that nursing is a great career because there is always an opportunity to learn. I’ve found that the patients themselves are the most interesting aspect of nursing. I have encountered a variety of patients with different conditions in areas such as a cardiac floor, med surgery, long term care, and the ER. Being able to follow the disease process and anticipate what is needed to treat the patient is both rewarding and fun at the same time. You always have be on your toes, because one hour a patient can be fine, and the next hour they could be coding.

Why did you choose Fox Valley Technical College?

I chose FVTC because it was close to home and I wasn’t sure yet what I wanted to go to school for. I was taking gen ed courses and decided after taking microbiology that nursing was definitely what I wanted to get into. Luckily for me, FVTC had an ADN program that I had heard great things about.

How did Fox Valley Technical College help you change your life?

FVTC and the instructors (especially nursing instructors) have really been able to give me a great education. I believe they have prepared me well for my future career as an RN.

What type of job do you expect to find after graduation?

I definitely want to be in a hospital setting. I’m hoping to get a job on a cardiac floor, but if I can get on a medical-surgical floor (or ER, but this might take more experience), then I would be thrilled.
