Two Fox Valley Technical College programs were recently highlighted in national publications for their use of simulation technology and innovative outreach services to K-12 students.
The college’s River City simulation area as part of its new Public Safety Training Center provides opportunities for several mock crime scene scenarios through incorporating a hotel with adjoining bar, a convenience store, a bank, and two houses into the study of forensic science investigation. These scenarios were featured in the July/August issue of Evidence Technology magazine. The article, "Welcome to River City," was authored by Dr. Joe LeFevre, forensic science instructor at FVTC.
Transportation programs at FVTC were showcased in the Summer issue of Fleet Maintenance & Technology magazine. The article, "Heading Your Way: New Mobile Lab at Fox Valley Tech is Bringing Awareness About Great Careers to Anywhere There’s an Audience," (PDF) references how a new mobile lab is educating K-12 students about careers in the truck driving, automotive, and diesel technician industries. The truck was refurbished from salvage by students in FVTC’s automotive and vehicle refinishing programs to be used as a career exploration vehicle for outreach purposes at area high schools and middle schools.
