The second season of training at the ATW Airport Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) training facility is underway and local journalists were recently invited to see the unique training that takes place here.

The ARFF facility began training airport fire fighters in spring of 2020. The center offers a specialized category of fire fighting involving airport ground emergencies. It is the only one of its kind in the Midwest and it is the only facility in the U.S. to provide hands-on training scenarios on a Boeing 777 Specialized Aircraft Fire Training Prop, where fire fighting drills can be done in multiple locations inside and outside the plane.

Journalists were invited to watch as airport fire fighters from Janesville and La Crosse, Wisconsin, plus Springfield, Illinois, were put through different fire fighting scenarios.
