Why did you choose the Agribusiness Science & Technology - Agronomy program?

My passion for agriculture sprouted from my personal experiences while growing up on my family farm and working directly with our animals and crops. Continuing a family legacy is something I hold close to my heart. On top of that, when I learned a greater detail of the professional organizational leadership aspects of agriculture, it was the perfect fit for me to personally grow and help others along the way!

What are you learning about your career field that you find interesting or rewarding?

Diversity and inclusion is a hot topic and seeing the agriculture industry grow in this area is interesting. During a recent internship, it was rewarding for me – as a female in agriculture – to be asked for my professional opinion in a male-dominated business.

Why did you choose Fox Valley Technical College?

I originally planned to attend a 4-year university. Due to financial reasons and my connection to my family farm, however, I decided to enroll at FVTC a month before classes started. Little did I know at the time that this would be the best decision I could have made! I earned multiple industry certifications through the hands-on experience taught to me throughout my degree. Additionally, I was able to get my entire post-secondary education paid for through the nearly 30 different scholarships I earned.

How has Fox Valley Technical College helped you change your life?

FVTC made me confident in my career area and provided me with the skills needed to reach success. With my involvement as a member, state officer, and national officer in the National Professional Agriculture Student (PAS) Organization, I was also able to develop many industry connections. These connections help to give me a “foot-in-the-door” opportunity to many career options!

What type of job do you expect to find after graduation?

I expect to continue my work at my family farm, hopefully becoming one of the future owners. On top of this, I plan to pursue an off-farm job relating to agronomy as I work towards my Certified Crop Advisors (CCA) credential.

In one sentence what's your best advice for someone who's not sure they're ready for college?

Create your career goal and stick to it because with resilience, you can do and be anything you aspire to be.
