The Fox Valley Technical College National Criminal Justice Training Center (NCJTC) conducted a weeklong training session for Native Americans between the ages of 14 and 17 as part of a Tribal youth police academy experience at the college’s Appleton campus. The event was funded through the Office of Community Oriented Policing Services, U.S. Department of Justice

More than 40 participants attended the academy from 13 states. They learned about law enforcement and other criminal justice careers through a series of hands-on activities. The culmination of their experiences included a large-scale police scenario and a graduation ceremony. Other experiential topics held during the week included police procedures, crime scene investigations, drug abuse, suicide prevention, bullying, and discussions on challenges unique to Native American youth.
