Law Enforcement 720 Academy Pre-Application

This program is specifically designed for those with a minimum of 40 accredited college-level credits who seek to meet Wisconsin certification requirements as a law enforcement officer. In this role, you’ll be responsible for the preservation of law and order in your community. You’ll learn numerous skills related to the profession of law enforcement. Your training will also include crime prevention, crime investigation, vehicle patrols and assisting the public. This program includes in-class fitness training and other physical education such as defensive tactics and fire arms training. You’ll have plenty of opportunities to practice your skills with hands-on training and scenario-based field simulations.

Please carefully read the instructions below. You must complete the entire pre-application process and submit all materials prior to the deadline to be considered for the academy.

Step 2 | Obtain and Complete all Necessary Forms. 

  • DJ-LE-332 Medical Assessment Form 
    Please download this form (PDF) and have it completed by a medical professional. Once completed it will be valid for 21 months. The form will need to be submitted to FVTC along with the other necessary documents. 
  • Consent for Release of Information
    Please download this form (PDF) and sign. This allows FVTC to share your application information with the Wisconsin Department of Justice. 
  • Wisconsin Online Record Check   
    The Online Record Check can be ordered here. Choose the Public Access tab, choose Submit Request and follow the instructions. Backround Request Type is General, you do not need to request a certified copy. You will need to pay for the background check with a credit card or bank account information. Additional instructions can be found in this document (PDF).
  • Official Drivers Abstract 
    Obtain this document from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation. Visit the DOT website and follow the instructions to purchase your driving record. 
  • Original Birth Certificate 
    Submit your original birth certificate to verify your age and citizenship. The document will be returned to you. No copies please.
  • Photocopy of high school diploma, GED diploma or PI-1205 (for applicants who have completed a home school program) 
  • Official College Transcript
    To verify that you have 40 completed college credits from an accredited college. Please note: official FVTC transcripts are not needed. Transcripts must be sent directly to the following address:

Only completed application materials received prior to the deadline date will be considered for the academy. 

 

Next Steps

                      • Applicants submitting all required materials will be invited to interview with a panel of criminal justice executives and scheduled to complete a physical readiness test* (Valid for 180 days). Only applicants that have meet the entrance and fitness requirements set by the WI Department of Justice, Training and Standards Bureau will be eligible for academy participation. Details on the interview and physical readiness test will be provided to applicants once review of submitted materials is complete.
                      • Your acceptance into the Law Enforcement Academy is not final until you have successfully completed the physical readiness test, interview, and supplied required documentation.
                      • Applicants accepted into the program will be notified approximately 3-4 weeks prior to the start of training. 
                      • Agency sponsored applicants will receive spots in the academy before a self-sponsoring applicant.

Important Deadlines

January start: Application materials are due prior to November 1. 

March start: Application materials are due prior to January 1. 

June start: Application materials are due prior to April 1. 

August start: Application materials are due prior to June 1.
