Production welders are in high demand. You’ll find employment opportunities in iron work, construction and manufacturing, and could find yourself working on large amphibious vehicles and fire trucks, or small metal products like lawn mowers and snow throwers. Your training will cover the various welding metals and techniques, and will give you plenty of time to practice your skills. You’ll learn how to use your math skills to determine material measurements and settings for hand and power tools. You will also set up learn to read sketches, blueprints, job shop orders, bills for materials and welding symbols.

Whether you’re an incoming student, transferring to another two-year college or pursuing your bachelor’s degree, we make it easy for you to seamlessly transfer your credits. With full accreditation by the Higher Learning Commission, we offer credit transfer agreements with more than 65 two-and four-year colleges.

Many students come to Fox Valley Tech with credits they’ve already earned, either while in high school or at other colleges and universities. It’s also possible to be granted credit for career-related knowledge and skills you’ve already mastered.

Is a four-year degree in your future? Save time and money by starting here. You can earn your associate degree at Fox Valley Tech, then apply your credits toward a bachelor’s degree. Or easily transfer your credits to other two-year colleges.

Program Outcomes
  • Setup and welding using welding processes including shielded metal arc welding, gas metal arc welding, gas tungsten arc welding and metal cored arc welding.
  • Setup and operation of fabrication equipment including press brakes (manual and CNC), saws (manual and CNC), iron work, punching operation, tubing bending, power rollers and other metal forming equipment.
  • Fabrication and repair of parts using thermal cutting processes, including oxy-fuel cutting equipment, air carbon arc and plasma cutting equipment (manual and CNC).
  • Blueprint reading.
  • Interpretation of welding symbols.
  • Fabrication and manufacturing skills.
  • Selection of various metals, ferrous and non-ferrous, as required by the job.
  • Use of levels, reading tapes and other related instruments for measurement.
Additional Information
You will be required to furnish your own safety glasses and gloves, and dress according to safety standards.
