Career Exploration for Middle Schools

PLEASE NOTE: Sign up for all 2020-2021 middle school events will open at 8 a.m. on May 1.

In lieu of visiting the campus, we encourage you to arrange a career cluster presentation. If interested, please contact Jennifer Fuerst at 920-560-1439 or fuerst@fvtc.edu to make arrangements. 

Career exploration for middle school students (6-8 grades). Students can visit our campus and explore various career areas. 

Pre-registration is required for your group. Space is limited and will be on a first-come, first served basis. Parents are encouraged to join their child at this event. One chaperone is required for every 10 students. 

FORMAT: The day begins with a short welcome and introductions. Attendees will break into groups that will rotate through three different career areas, followed by a final wrap up.

Please send this registration form (PDF) home with your students, along with a permission slip, and return all completed documents to Jennifer Fuerst the day of the event. 

Send emergency contact information to fuerst@fvtc.edu. The name and cell phone number of at least 1 staff member who will be at FVTC the day of the event. The name and number of someone in your school office, who has access to student emergency contact information

RECOMMENDED POST EVENT PRESENTATION:

Junior Achievement Technical Careers Challenge

Junior Achievement 7th & 8th Grade Technical Careers Challenge  |  In collaboration with Fox Valley Technical College

Event description:

JA Technical Careers Challenge is a real-world experience that allows teams of middle school students to compete against one another as they discover how education can bridge the gap between their passion and a future dream career. 

Working with a team of middle school students, FVTC instructors and business professionals, students will learn and play as they participate in one of seven real-world, hands-on career scenarios. 

Challenge scenarios: 
Agriculture, Automotive, Culinary Arts, Diesel, Healthcare, Information Technology, Manufacturing

Please Note: 

  • Schools or individual families are responsible for transportation to and from FVTC.

  • Parents are welcome to join their child for the banquet on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Registration for this event will open on Friday, March 6 at 8 a.m. and close on Monday, April 6.

Junior Achievement BizTown

Elementary school students aren't old enough to drive, work, vote or be the boss. At JA BizTown® they are!

Students operate a bank, restaurant, city hall, newspaper, retail store and 10 other businesses. JA BizTown combines in-class learning with a day-long visit to a fully interactive, simulated town. Students leave understanding the relationship between what they learn in school and their participation in a local economy.

JA BizTown is correlated to Common Core Standards and Wisconsin Model Academic Standards.

JA BizTown is proven to advance students' knowledge, skill, attitude, and achievement for students in grades 4-6.

Junior Achievement FINANCE PARK

Teens rarely think about buying health insurance, or evaluating investment choices. At JA Finance Park® they do!

JA Finance Park, combines in-class learning with a day-long visit to a fully interactive, simulated town. Students in grades 8-12 are introduced to personal finance and career exploration. They receive family and income scenarios, then visit businesses to purchase things like insurance, clothing, food, transportation and real estate. They create a budget, allocate expenses and make personal investments. Students are the sole providers for a family and must accommodate the needs of the family without overspending. Educators assist student learning by preparing students before the day and summarizing the experience through post visit activities.

JA Finance Park is correlated to Common Core Standards and Wisconsin Model Academic Standards.

JA Finance Park is proven to advance students' knowledge, skill, attitude, and achievement.
