Culinary Grad Goes for Pastry Chef of the Year

Laura Johnson, a 2012 graduate of FVTC’s Culinary Arts and Hotel & Restaurant Management programs, vies for national pastry chef of the year at the upcoming Cook. Craft. Create. American Culinary Federation (ACF) National Convention & Show this July in Orlando.

The late July event is ACF’s 2015 international competition for culinary teams and individuals. Johnson’s winning entrée at the ACF regional competition in Arkansas was Tropical Breeze, a chocolate cake wrapped in pastry with coconut rum ice cream. The Appleton native is currently enjoying her career as floor chef for Notre Dame Food Services in South Bend, Indiana. While at FVTC, Johnson was involved in the Culinary Club and annual Cultural Cuisine event while earning an Advanced Baking certificate in addition to her two associate degrees.
