Why did you choose the Quality Engineering Technology program?

I was given the opportunity to work in quality at my current job, and my boss advised me to look into classes to gain knowledge. It took a few years, but I decided to look into classes at Fox Valley Technical College, as it was local. I enrolled in the Quality Assurance Certificate program and then decided to continue with the Quality Technician Associate in Applied Science program, as I realized where I could go with a degree. Shortly after enrolling in the Technician program, I was asked to join a focus group with local employers and students enrolled in the program at FVTC, exploring the possibility of a Quality Engineering Program. I then switched to the Quality Engineering Program, recognizing it would be more beneficial for me now and in the future.

What are you learning about your career field that you find interesting or rewarding?

Each company has its own quality system, including skills and tools used. In the classes for the degree, I am able to learn different tools and approaches and apply them to my current job as well as understand customers’ and suppliers’ quality systems better, especially the terminology. I am also learning communication skills and leadership skills with my core and elective classes.

Why did you choose Fox Valley Technical College?

I chose FVTC because it is local, flexible and one of the only schools with quality-related programs. The flexibility is a plus with having young children and a full-time job.

How did Fox Valley Technical College help you change your life?

FVTC has helped me grow in my quality position and given me opportunities that I wouldn’t have had without schooling. Department Chair Janet Braun and her team have grown the quality program to be beneficial in the real world. They provide tremendous support when questions arise with homework, setting up classes for the next term and ensuring I have the correct classes and credits for the Quality Engineering degree.

What type of job do you expect to find after graduation?

Having grown with the company I am currently working for, my plan is to continue to work for my current employer.
