Alumni Display Skills While Promoting Education

| By: Britten, Casey

Four alumni of Fox Valley Tech visited the Flying Leaf Community Center on the Oneida Nation Reservation to share their time and talents for the community.

The event provided an opportunity for local citizens to learn about FVTC’s Criminal Justice and Culinary Arts programs, in addition to sampling various entrees prepared by chefs who graduated from the college. Presented by Oneida Comprehensive Housing Division and Oneida Higher Education, food sampling included macaroni and cheese with bison, broccoli tomato, and onion, bison sliders, and more prepared by chefs Ace Champion (class of 2012), Wolf Thorstenson (2011), and Kelly Laes (1994).

Officer Ralph Powless, a 2016 completer of FVTC’s Law Enforcement Recruit Academy, was also on hand representing the Criminal Justice field. The food was provided by Oneida Food Distribution, Oneida Food Pantry, and the Oneida Police Department. In all, more than 75 people attended the two-hour-plus educational event.

Members of FVTC’s Diversity & Inclusion Services department were on hand to share insight on educational pathways.
