Prioritizing Mental Health at FVTC

Prioritizing Mental Health at FVTC

| By: Britten, Casey

Mental Health Awareness Month is recognized nationally during the month of May, in an effort to raise awareness of those living with mental health issues, as well as to help reduce the stigma associated with mental health.

At Fox Valley Technical College, we are committed to creating an environment where students and staff feel safe and supported year-round. Initiatives include mental health counseling for students through FVTC Counseling Services, EAP counseling for staff, continuous QPR and mental health first aid trainings for staff and students, mental health-related workshops, activities & presentations, and staff wellness incentives.

We are recognizing Mental Health Awareness Month through the following activities:

  • On Tuesday, May 2, we are hosting a Mental Health Fair at the Appleton campus from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. in the Commons. Students and staff can learn about free resources available to them, meet FVTC counseling staff, explore the Fitness Center and participate in many fun, stress-relieving activities.

  • During the week of May 1, feel free to take a stroll on campus for our 3K walk, featuring mental health-related messages.

  • In addition, staff members are encouraged to purchase and wear their ChooseKind@FVTC apparel throughout the month.
