Why did you choose this career program?

I have always wanted to help people by working in the medical field. It's such an intimate time during a medical moment in someone's life. Even if it's a good or bad moment, you are still helping them out.

What are you learning about your career field that you find interesting or rewarding?

Every day and every patient is something new. The pace of the day might be different throughout the work week, but no two days are the same, except maybe the coffee. The different walks of life and procedures have a baseline of consistency, but beyond that, it's a wide world of possibilities that makes the field so interesting.

Why did you choose Fox Valley Technical College?

I chose FVTC for the part-time Nursing program to fit around my family, volunteering, work schedule and my children's schedules. I was able to do the nursing prerequisite classes beforehand to lighten the semesters, but also gear up for going back to school. This has helped my household have time to prepare for the adjustment. The campus is very welcoming to students from all walks of life. The help from FVTC has been in many forms, from adjusting back to college to studying and finding a community within your program.

How has Fox Valley Technical College helped you change your life?

Within one short year, I will be graduating and moving on to a career that will be exciting not only for me but also for my family. My kids and husband have been through this program with me every step of the way. From my kids coming to study sessions at the campus or going to the library for quiet study time. It has given me hope that, through the hard times, I will finally be doing a career that makes me happy.

What type of job do you expect to find after graduation?

I'm still exploring all the different possibilities. However, with every clinical session and every class, I am getting a better understanding of where I don't feel I would be a good fit and also which areas I would fit in well.

What's your best advice for someone who's not sure they're ready for college?

You never know you're ready until you just trust in yourself, take the leap of faith and try.

Lightning Round!

Best on-campus place to study: Nursing lab area especially on the weekends

One class you surprisingly enjoyed: Chemistry

One class that challenged you: Pharmacology

One thing every FVTC student must experience on campus before graduating: Trilogy Salon & Spa or Ione's Dining Room on campus.

Pro tip for newcomers trying to find their way around campus: I still get lost and end up at the library, but people are always willing to help!
