Important: Before You Begin


No earlier than 30 days prior to the start of your FVTC Motorcycle & Scooter Rider Course [Catalog # 42816401], you must complete the mandatory online Motorcycle Safety Foundation Basic eCourse.

IMPORTANT: To participate in the FVTC Motorcycle Rider Course, you must print and present your Basic eCourse completion certificate to the instructor at the beginning of the class. If you don't have your certificate, you cannot participate in the class and will not be issued a refund.

Motorcycle & Scooter Rider Course [Catalog # 42816401] 

FVTC’s motorcycle and scooter safety courses include six hours of classroom instruction and ten hours of on-cycle riding. Instructors are veteran riders trained and certified by the Motorcycle Safety Foundation and approved by the Wisconsin Department of Transportation.

Classes are offered days, evenings and weekends at Fox Valley Technical College's Appleton campus. To register, you must be a Wisconsin resident 15 ½ years of age or older. Participants under 18 years of age must have the liability waiver notarized or signed & witnessed by an FVTC staff member prior to the start of class.

You can register online or in person at any FVTC location. Telephone registration is not accepted for motorcycle or scooter classes.

After successfully completing the FVTC course, you will receive the MV3575 Motorcycle Skills Test Waiver Authorization to take to the DMV for your Class M driver’s license. 

A few things to note:

  • Classes meet rain or shine.

  • The first day is classroom only, and the second day begins on-cycle instruction.

  • For a full refund, cancellation is required at least 24 hours prior to class.

  • You do not need a motorcycle instruction permit to take the class.

You must provide the following for your on-cycle training (day 2):

  • Sturdy boots or high top athletic shoes covering your ankles

  • Long denim or heavy material pants without holes

  • Long sleeved jacket/shirt; dress in layers to allow for varying weather conditions

  • Rain gear for inclement weather; classes will be held rain or shine

  • Eye protection (glasses)

  • Recommended: Full finger gloves – no holes

  • Recommended: Helmet (DOT, Snell or ANSI approved)

Fox Valley Technical College provides for training:

  • Motorcycles are 250cc; a variety of models are available. Scooters are 125-150cc.

  • Helmets (bring your own helmet & gloves if you have them)

  • All books and materials
