High-Demand Programs

Fox Valley Technical College is committed to ensuring transparent, consistent, and fair access to programs with limited capacity. A number of our programs are transitioning to a waiting list system to prioritize in-district residents and in-state out-of-district residents.

Application Process for High-Demand Programs

Waiting lists will be initiated for High-Demand Programs. The application completion date and verified residency status will determine priority placement on these lists. Please refer to Admissions Policy and the Residency for Admission and Tuition Purposes policy for additional information.

Students admitted to a high-demand program will fall into the following categories.

  • Pre-Core: Admitted student who has met all admissions requirements but not academic preparedness criteria. These students will be on the waiting list for core classes but must meet the academic preparedness criteria to be offered a priority registration appointment.
  • Core-Ready: Student is admitted to the program and on the waiting list for available space in core courses and has completed all admissions requirements and academic preparedness criteria, if applicable. These students have priority over all other applicants in subsequent terms based on date of admission and residency status.
  • Core Active: Admitted students who are enrolled in core classes.

If admitted to a high-demand program, students must opt-in to a waitlist at the time of admission. FVTC will communicate with students to provide timelines for this opt-in process.

Core-Ready Student Process

Before each registration period, the College will reach out to Core-Ready students to let them know if they're eligible to enroll in core courses. If you're a Core-Ready student, you'll need to respond to this message to get your registration date and time.

Once you receive your priority registration slot, be sure to sign up for your core courses during the upcoming enrollment period. If you miss your assigned time and don’t get enrolled, you’ll be removed from the waiting list.

If a spot opens up during priority registration, you have two options: either register for the class or let the College know if you'd like to defer to the next enrollment period. If you don’t do either, you’ll be taken off the waiting list

Academic Preparedness

To enroll in FVTC courses, students need to meet certain academic requirements set by their department or division. These requirements—like GPA, test scores, medical screenings, background checks, and previous coursework—are listed on the FVTC program page and included in registration materials from the academic division and Advising Services.

If a student signs up for a course without meeting these requirements, the College may notify them and remove them from the class. FVTC does allow students to use in-progress, ungraded coursework to qualify for future courses, but once final grades are posted, students who no longer meet the stated requirements must drop those courses. If they don’t, the College will do it for them.
