Life Is Short image

The average American works 46.7 hours a week. We think life’s too short to spend that time doing something you don’t enjoy. But making the decision to go back to school to train for a new career is not easy. You might think, “I don’t have the time… I have a family and a house payment, so I can’t afford it… I don’t know what I want to do… I won’t fit in…”

You’re not alone. Here at Fox Valley Tech, we hear these stories every day. We also see the end result: the hundreds of people just like you who took a risk and changed their life. We can help you find your path.

Sound familiar? We're here to help.

I don’t know what I’m interested in studying.

At Fox Valley Tech, you have more than 200 hands-on, career centered programs of study to choose from. That’s a lot! But don’t worry, our career counselors can help you identify how your personality, past experience skills and interests can help narrow down your options. Learn more >>

I wasn’t a good student in high school. How am I going to succeed in college?

Math, writing, science… the struggle is real, we get it. We will do everything in our power to help you succeed. Through our Teaching & Learning Center, individual tutoring and study groups are available to help you improve whatever skills you need help with, all free of charge. We also offer free workshops and classes throughout the semester to help you with things like study skills, test-taking and time management.

Looking to get your GED or brush up on skills before starting a program? We can help you with that too, through our Adult Basic Education classes.

How can I afford college for myself when our family budget is already so tight?

For starters, Fox Valley Tech is the most efficient and affordable option for higher education in the Fox Valley. On average, FVTC's tuition costs less than half that of two years of in-state tuition at a four-year public university. Plus, financial aid and many scholarships are available. In fact, each year, more than 1000 scholarships are awarded. That is free money that can help you pay for tuition, books, transportation and unanticipated expenses.

In addition, many work-study and internship options are available, which can not only help you earn money for expenses, but also add skills to your student resume.

Will I feel like I belong there?

The average age of a Fox Valley Tech student is about 30. There will be younger students, but there will also be older students. This mix mirrors the working world and provides an ideal learning environment. Plus class sizes are smaller here, which means you’re getting more individualized instruction.

I work full time and I’m a parent. How will I fit it all in?

There are a variety of class options at Fox Valley Tech, including on-campus, online, part-time, day, evening, weekend and accelerated options. Plus, while our main campus is located in Appleton, we also offer many classes at our Oshkosh campuses and regional centers in Chilton, Clintonville, Waupaca and Wautoma. You can learn when, where and how you want.

If child care is a concern, there is a day care center at the Appleton campus that is open to students and staff, and is licensed for 96 children, ages six weeks through five years, year-round.

Is going back to school even worth it at my age?

There are no guarantees in life. But with a degree from Fox Valley Tech, the odds of finding a job are definitely in your favor. 94% of our graduates are employed within six months of graduating, and 59 of our programs have 100% job employment.

What’s more, education is something that can never be taken from you; you will carry that knowledge and experience with you wherever you go, for the rest of your life. You will have taken a risk and succeeded.

So is it worth it? Absolutely.
